iLASIK
iLASIK is an advanced laser eye surgery procedure that uses an excimer laser to precisely reshape your cornea, correcting imperfections and improving vision quality. It is especially effective in treating conditions such as:
Advanced astigmatism
Corneal aberrations (distortions in light waves caused by irregularities in the eye’s refractive components)
Persistent vision problems after previous LASIK procedures
Complications from previous cataract or corneal surgeries
iLASIK in astigmatism treatment
Standard LASIK may sometimes reduce vision quality in cases of advanced astigmatism and corneal aberrations. However, thanks to modern Wavefront technology, iLASIK allows detailed analysis of these aberrations and transmits this data directly to the laser device.
This enables iLASIK to treat both astigmatism and corneal aberrations effectively, providing improved vision clarity and contrast compared to standard LASIK.
Wavefront technology
Wavefront is a custom, individualized treatment technique designed to enhance vision quality beyond traditional laser treatments. It works by sending specific light waves into the eye, which reflect from the retina. This reflection helps create a detailed map of your eye’s unique imperfections, including hidden vision issues that standard treatments may miss.
By reshaping the cornea to correct these aberrations, iLASIK patients can achieve sharper vision and better contrast sensitivity — essentially maximizing the performance of their eyes.
Treatment process
The iLASIK procedure is similar to standard LASIK, including all preoperative and postoperative stages. The entire procedure typically lasts about 10 to 15 minutes and is performed under topical anesthesia (eye drops), allowing the patient to eat normally before and after.
Results with iLASIK are considered successful when vision is corrected to within +/- 0.50 diopters, often eliminating the need for glasses.
Am I suitable for iLASIK?
Candidates for iLASIK are generally over 18 years old with stable vision prescriptions. A comprehensive eye examination is necessary to determine suitability. Key evaluation factors include corneal thickness, curvature, biomechanical strength, and the presence of any additional eye conditions like keratoconus, cataracts, dry eye, strabismus, or retinal damage.
Visual acuity criteria for iLASIK include:
Myopia up to -10.0 diopters
Astigmatism up to +6.0 diopters
Hypermetropia up to +6.0 diopters
Who cannot have iLASIK?
iLASIK is not recommended for people who have:
Before and after iLASIK treatment
Prior to the procedure, avoid wearing makeup and discontinue hard contact lenses 2 weeks before and soft lenses 1 week before surgery. Inform your doctor of any eye discomfort before the treatment.
After the procedure, it is normal to experience mild burning, watering, aching, and blurry vision. Protective glasses and prescribed eye drops must be used as directed. A follow-up check-up will be scheduled the next day, after which you can return home.
