Breast Lift – Restoring Shape and Confidence
Breast sagging, softness, and deformation are common concerns for many women. Breast tissue is composed entirely of fat glands and milk ducts, without any muscle. Over time, factors like gravity, aging, weight fluctuations, childbirth, breastfeeding, and improper bra use can cause the breasts to lose their firmness and youthful appearance.
In such cases, a breast lift, medically known as mastopexy, is an effective surgical option to reshape and elevate the breasts.
Why Do Breasts Sag?
Sagging is a natural result of aging and gravity. Skin gradually loses elasticity, especially after significant weight loss, pregnancy, or breastfeeding. These changes can lead to a drooping breast contour, even at a younger age.
How Is a Breast Lift Performed?
Mastopexy is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes between 2 to 4 hours, depending on the technique used.
For mild sagging, a small silicone implant may be inserted under the breast to restore volume and lift.
For more advanced sagging, a surgical lift similar to breast reduction is performed—except without removing breast tissue. If the tissue is insufficient, an implant may still be used to achieve the desired shape and firmness.
The specific method and implant size are determined by the surgeon during surgery, based on the individual anatomy and needs of the patient.
Aftercare and Recovery
Following the procedure, multiple dressings are applied to the chest. Dissolvable stitches are used, so suture removal is not required. Most patients can return to work within 3–4 days.
Swelling may persist for about a week. The new breast contour gradually settles, with visible improvements by one month and final results appearing within 6 months. To support healing and maintain results:
Breast lift surgery typically delivers long-lasting results that not only improve physical appearance but also enhance mental well-being. However, future pregnancies, weight changes, and aging may still impact the results over time.
