Breast Augmentation – Enhance Your Shape with Confidence

Breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement, is one of the most commonly performed aesthetic surgeries among women. While the primary function of the breast is breastfeeding, its appearance plays a major role in body image and confidence. For individuals who are unhappy with the shape, size, or proportion of their breasts, augmentation offers an effective solution.

Who Is Breast Augmentation For?

Breast augmentation is suitable in the following situations:

  • Women who feel their breasts are too small and want to improve their body’s proportions, especially the balance between chest and hips.

  • Individuals who have experienced breast shrinkage after pregnancy. (In cases of significant sagging, breast lift may also be recommended.)

  • Those with noticeable asymmetry between breasts. While minor asymmetry is normal, surgery can equalize sizes if desired.

  • Patients needing breast reconstruction after breast cancer or due to congenital absence of breast tissue.

  • Women with worn-out or problematic existing implants who require revision surgery.

Breast Augmentation Techniques

There are two main methods:

  1. Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer
This is a popular option for those who do not wish to have implants. Excess fat is removed from areas such as the abdomen or thighs via liposuction. The fat is then purified (centrifuged) and injected into the breasts. As part of the fat is absorbed over time, about 50–60% remains to create a fuller appearance.
However, this technique is not suitable for every patient. It requires sufficient body fat and does not provide the firmness or lift that implants can offer.

  2. Breast Augmentation with Silicone Implants
Silicone implants come in various sizes, shapes, and materials. The choice depends on your body type and desired outcome, which your surgeon will determine during your consultation.

Implant Placement Techniques

  • Periareolar: A small incision is made around the areola. While discreet, it may affect milk ducts.

  • Inframammary: The incision is made in the natural fold under the breast, leaving a hidden scar.

  • Transaxillary: An incision in the armpit area allows implant placement with the help of an endoscope, avoiding scars on the breast itself.

  • Transabdominal: A less common approach through the abdomen using endoscopic assistance.

Each method has advantages and limitations. Your surgeon will recommend the most appropriate approach.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation

The surgery typically takes 1–2 hours. Patients are often discharged the same day or the following morning. Rest is recommended for at least 2 days. Most patients experience minimal pain, though a sensation of fullness or tightness may be present in the beginning. Mild swelling may occur within the first few days, especially if the implant is placed under the muscle, which can cause temporary discomfort when moving.

A small bandage is applied to the incision, and a sports bra is worn to provide compression and support. Showering is usually allowed after 3 days without removing the bandage. The sports bra should be worn continuously for one month. Most patients return to daily routines within 3–4 days, but strenuous physical activity should be avoided for at least 2 months.
